Well, I changed the alternator and the timing belt since I was working around that area anyways.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a '95 Maxima have a timing chain, not a timing belt?

I think he means the alternator belt.

You sure you have the right belt? and the tension adjusted properly? That is what loud squeaking noise generally is.

Yeah I have the right belt. I was told to tighten the belt tensioner until the belt defects 3.8 - 4.1 mm. Not really sure what that meant so I just tightened the tensioner as much as possible. Any idea on the
3.8 - 4.1mm figure?

how is the idler bearing?

EDIT: You can say all you want about domestic cars, but i like being able to pull off the alternator in about 5 minutes including beer break. 😀

Not quite sure what the idler bearing is but I completely agree with you about the ease of fixing domestic cars. Most alternators are in plain sight on top of the engine.

😀

Sorry, I meant I changed the drive belt, not timing (wasn't thinking). And you're right, the 95 Maxima does have a timing chain not belt.

I should have realized what you meant when you were talking about working aroung the alternator, sorry. You did call it a drive belt in the next update. 🙂

I have the Haynes for your car right here. it says:

-disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of battery
-remove splash shield underneath engine (this is while on jackstands of course)
-remove the drivebelt
-disconnect the electrical connector and alternator output wire from alternator
- remove engine cooling fan and shroud
-remove air conditioning compressor mounting bolts (without disconnecting the refrigerant lines) and slide compressor forward

- remove alternator mounting bolts and remove alternator
-installation is reverse of removal
-install the drivebelt and reconnect the cable to the negative terminal of battery
-adjust drivebelt

Good to know. Thanks skoorby.

WTF is up with that stuff???
