What do you guys think about an automotive forum? I know this is AnandTECH and OffTopic should be the place for such a thing, but OT obviously isn't... and a new thread is opened every time... and gets lost in the other unimportant threads.

There's so many "YACT" threads that I think there should be some sort of devotion/attention to the car threads... especially car REPAIR/maintenance... because there's obviously 2 things that interest us most (aside from women):

1) computers/technology
2) car talk

Thoughts ? Maybe on a trial basis ?

I think what olds meant was that this has been brought up before, and the answer has consistently been no.

I believe the mods said before that the forum limit was reached and that no more forums could be added.

Before you tell me "but we just added a forum", not that the AnandTech News forum is no more and we had room for one before the limit would be reached.

Oh... cause I did do a search for "cars" and "automotive" in this forum and couldn't find this question asked before... thought it was strange too...

BTW, not saying that they're lying to us, but I was just able to add 20+ forum categories using FuseTalk 3.

Azraele is correct.
This question (adding a forum) gets asked weekly and the answer is always the same. And you didn't do anything wrong. :)

I wish it would happen, too, but I know it won't. I even suggested at least adding a car-related thread icon (like the thumbs up & thumbs down etc.), but even that was ignored. :(

That really is a good idea. Plenty of forums have stuff like that.

Ok, since we're bumping super old threads abount new forums, I'll make the same suggestion I made twice before.

I think a neat feature with using subforums would be that you aren't allowed to post in the main forum, but when you click to read it you load every thread from the sub forums. So take the example above (with a few additions):
[Software Forums]
|--[Operating Systems]
|----[Windows]
|----[Mac]
|----[Unix/Linux]
|----[General]
|--[Applications]
|--[Games]
|----[Console]
|----[PC]
|----[General]
|--[Programming]
|--[General]
If you want to read about PC Games you click on that sub forum and only get those posts. If you want to read about all games, you click on that and get every post in all of the Games subforums. And if you click on Software Forums you get everything posted there.

Maybe it's just me, but I think that would be great.

I'll be willing to give you an OT car subforum in my dreamworld. :p

That will NEVER happen. A) It's more work for the mods B) It's not an already added feature of FT4 IIRC - it would require massive amounts of coding and C) How would the forums differentiate between what thread goes in what subforum? What about a game like Half Life 2? It's coming to both XBox and PC.

Subforums are a feature of FT4, they just haven't been implemented here... yet. I don't know if they have sub-subforums or not, but subforums are possible.

This is a tech forum. If you want to task in depth car questions go to a car forum. OT was dot designed so we could answer questions about why your car exploded on the freeway.

Right, then we could all get back to posting the things that are supposed to go in the Off Topic forum
