Car Audo Help...

My girlfriends car. Help me decide what I need to buy for it.



She had a system before (that I got her) infinity made. I got a 6 channel amp, with a nice sub and two sets of 6x9s. Now she traded in her focus for a pontiac vibe. It uses 6 1/2s apparently (I don't know much about this stuff, so bare with me). I'm going to be getting her some replacement speakers to go in her new car. Leaving the sub/amp alone (its barely a year old and works great).


So now I need to choose which speakers. Im going with Kicker brand, for sure. I plan on getting either the KS series or DS series. Apparently the KS series is a bit better (and it won't cost me much more to get those instead).


*Here is the question* Do I need to get component or coaxial speakers, also.... do I need to buy tweeters? Like I said, its a pontiac vibe 2003, base model not the GT.


Any help would be appreciated.



Also I'll be looking to sell my 6x9s and would prefer to sell them on her as oppose to egay. I don't really do much buying/selling online, I just want to get rid of the speakers and cover the cost of the new ones a bit with these. I'll sell them fairly cheaply, they are inifinity kappas 6x9s, so PM me if you are interested at all and we can work something out.

why upgrade it? its really not necessary on a new vehicle and really is just a waste of money currently...

but i will say the radio is quite ugly.

Wow, she had a Focus and sprung for the Vibe? She and I are the same that way. 2003 model even. Can't help you about the audio, though, stock is actually doing quite well for me. Not that I listen to much on the road.

Ok, well if youv'[e heard the system in this vibe you would want to upgrade as well. Not to mention Ive already got a couple hundred dollars in other hardware invested, so mine as well get speakers to go with it all.

Well... If you're running amp wires to the doors and to all the speakers then you could go with components.. whereas.. (I THINK) coaxials just hoook up to your already stock wiring system. tweeters aren't necessary but may help getting better highs in. Mids are the hardest to achieve, and then subs cover the low range.

coaxial to use existing wireing, component for higher quality (but means replacing wiring). Coaxial will let you put the tweeters with speaker (easier installation as the tweeters are on top of the speaker). Componet must be mounted separately. Also component allows for higher wattages. So it comes down to the tradeoffs your willing to make. Also, I would honestly look into Rockford Fosgate Power series speakers. THOSE THINGS KICK ASS! I have to go to bed now. Thanks for the advice/info. Reason Im choosing Kickers is this...


KS 6 1/2 $34.50.

as oppose to $109.95.


If Im not mistaken in the pontiac vibe the tweeters are already in the door, so if I just get the coaxial I can have the speakers replaced without to much of a problem.


I think thats probably the best way to go, and probably won't make a HUGE difference in quality.

I've got my Rockford Fosgate T10001BD hooked up to my two type Rs and DAMN yeah the amp puts out some nice power.... If it's one thing I've learned from all my experiences in car audio, don't skimp on the prices, go fairly expensive and you'll be glad you did... I'm sure Rockford Fosgate or Kicker would do well, don't push youself over to audiobahn, I owned one of their amps (it was decently powerful) and it overheated every 3 minutes in summer time.

well, there goes my help. $37 for 6.5's is a good deal, but kicker is overrated and you can easily find better.

make sure their mounting depth is fine.
