I have a 01 Dodge Ram sport that currently has an aftermarket JVC cd reciever in it. I want to upgrade it to something with ipod control and possibly, bluetooth. Is the wiring harness universal, or would it only be compatable with another JVC head unit? I dont mind wiring in another harness, but it would make it so much easier just to plug and play the new unit. While we're at it, any reccomendations for a sub $300 head unit with ipod control and bluetooth?

Pull the current head unit and check the wiring behind it. You might have gotten lucky and somebody used one of those adapter harnesses that plugs direct to the factory harness plug and has bare wires for the radio end. If they didn't use that adapter harness, they probably cut the factory plug off and wired the HU up directly, in which case you'll have to do the same with the new HU.

JVC's require an adapter to control the ipod. Its like $40 on onlinecarstereo.com when I bought mine.
