What about Phoenix Gold stuff?

I don't have a whole lot of experience with active crossovers... I know what they do, and how they work... I've only ever used the ones built into amps.

I've alse been told Audio Control... but they need resister networks to adjust the frequency. Sounds like a pain.

I'll be a little more specific about what I need...

right now, I have a Phoenix Gold XS2300 running a sub (300W bridged), and a QX2180 running the fronts.

each is using their own crossover. Well, I'm thinking of selling the QX2180 and getting an XS2500 for the sub, and using the XS2300 for the front. Problem is, the XS2300 doesn't have a high-pass filter.

That's all I really need, is a HPF for the front speakers. I don't particularly want to use a passive crossover (like bass-blockers, etc.).

Phoenix Gold and Audio Control are both excellent products---but definitely more expensive. the Audio Control does use the resistor networks to change the cutoff frequency---not too much of a pain, but not as easy as turning a knob either.:)

If you want to stick w/ the Phoenix gold stuff, then you should probably check out the MX2. It's similar to the Coustic XM-3, but it might cost a little more---but still less than 150.00.

Ok, one last question. All the XS series amps have a 24 dB/oct. low-pass filter.

Would I be better to use the built in crossover for the sub (24 db/oct) instead of the 12dB/oct on the MX2?

I've heard higher slopes are better for subwoofers.

EDIT: I don't need to stay with PG... I'm just familiar with some of their products, but not their xovers.

Most likely you will get better results w/ the 24db/oct slopes, but it wouldn't hurt to try the other----just play around w/ it until you get the best sound.

Do you ever stop "playing around" with it?? :)

I think that's what car audio is all about.

I use the Phoenix Gold EQ15x TI in my system. I highly recommend it since it kills 2 birds with one stone.

[*]2/3rd's octave dual 15 band EQ
[*]24db/oct HP/LP crossover
[*]LPL controller
[*]ton of adjustments

You can see it here

John,

NICE SETUP! I bet that put you back some serious $$$.

I think the PG EQ/xover is a bit overkill for me right now... Although it is nice :)
