Car audio question: Alpine 5950

My uncle gave me an old Alpine 5950 12disk change for my car. The sticker on the back of the trunk unit says January 1987 on it so it's quiet old. But it's to put in a 96 escort so I don't want to spend any money on that car. Anyone have any idea how I could test this out and how I would go about hooking it up? I hooked up the power wires to a 12volt powersupply (no not for the computer) and I was able to eject the cd "cassette" out of the trunk unit, and a few lights came on on the head unit. I can take pictures if you'd like.

My uncle said there was also a bunch of subs and amps in my grandparents basement that I could take, would I need any of that stuff to hook up this cd changer? Also where would I place the head unit in the escort? There doesn't seem to be any room to put it.

Dude, I bet that there is like a whole alpine setup in your grandparents basement. I would take advantage of that, alpine is some nice stuff

Will this setup sound good though even if it's 14years old? Compared to the stock setup in the escort.

The sound out of the stock setup isn't "that" bad. But I never really heard anything better.

I'll snoop around my grandparents basement next time I go (probably a week or two from now) and see what I can dig up.

Only problem is, the escort is a station wagon. I don't know where I would put the subs because they would get stolen pretty fast on a college campus.

damn dude! You could pimp out your escort wagon. 😀

Hey,

Well heres what I got.

One huge sub, must be about 12-14" in diameter, that doesn't say anything of what make it is and stuff. I can take a pic though
Two little Altec Lansing ALS525: 100watts max power, 4 OHMS
Two subs I guess there are! I have no clue. There is no writing on the back.
Two Kicker speakers that are about 10" in diametera. Doesn't say anything more.

There wasn't any amps or anything though.

How can I get the cd deck and a few of those speakers going for the cheapest possible? Would I need to get a really cheap amp? Could I use my stock radio?

Remeber this has to be REALLY cheap.

Do you still have the alpine 5950, are you using it? Does it work? If you have it does it have the cord that goes from the 10 disk changer to the head unit, if so I would like to buy this set up from you I would pay pretty decent money for it my phone # is (206). Two nine o eight three 87 let’s make a dea

Seattle people...

Anyone think maybe the "new member" lost "his" power-cord? 😛
