2 x Alpine Type R 12" Do I need to get the 4 ohm x 4 ohm ones of these or the 2 ohm x 2 ohm

Rockford Fosgate Punch P8002 2 Channel Amplifier

Shipped: $738.42

I don't know anything about car audio, so will this sound good? Recommendations for better in this price range? I really can't go up any higher $$ wise though.

I already have these coming in the mail:

Alpine CDA-9830 My mp3 playing head unit! I think I'm going to get an amp to run my speakers later, but for now this will do.

Alpine SPS-100A 4" speakers for the dash

Alpine SPS460A 4 x 6" speakers for the door

Alpine SPS-690A 6 x 9" speakers for the rear

I bought the speakers from Techtronics so it's not as expensive as Crutchfield, this is still taking a bite outta my wallet though. Those have already shipped, but I got to thinking today, that is 3 pairs of speakers. Will that head unit run 3 pairs of speakers?

Thanks in advance for the replies. :)

I cannot get your first two links to work at all....but let me just state that rockford punch series amps suck major donkey balls. They are only 2 ohm stable and over way overpriced. You want a class D amp to run subs off of, you won't regret it.

have you checked out sounddomain forums or termpro?

i recommend looking at resonant engineering subs (they're great). i use a jbl bp1200.1 to power one re 15hc (model line changed, mid range). its ridiculous.

The Type R's are supposed to be decent, but I can't say from experience. That's way too much money for the amp, though. Look on ebay for older model RF's, alpines, JBL's...

If price is an issue, you should go with Image Dynamic subs instead of those Alpine. Someone already mentioned that you should go with class D amps for runnings subs.. much more efficient.

Is the class D amps the monochannel subwoofer amps? Because I was told I needed a 2 channel amp to run 2 subs.

If he's going to go with the ebay route, might as well look for used high end amps. People tend to drive up the prices on those older RF's. I got my almost perfect condition MMATS class D amp from ebay pretty cheap.

The number of channels has nothing to do with the method of amplification. The description should state if it's Class AB, Class B, Class D, or whatever.

LMAO... visiting best buy were you?

A monoblock class D amp is designed just for subs. They will run about 3x more efficient than class a/b amps. They can handle many subs at once. The number of subs doesnt matter, just the ohm load.

Whoever told you that is either very ignorant or very misinformed. You can always run your 2 subs in parallel or series depending on the your subs input impedance and what your amp can handle.

I used to run MMATS. There customer service is TERRIBLE!

The T-S parameters can't even be found on Alpine's site...

You can consider 2 Ascendant Audio Atlas 15 drivers or an Ascendant Audio Avalanche 18, instead.

I never had to contact them.. so I wouldn't know anything about that.

Both the JBL 1200.1 and 600.1 are solid amps.

Okay here is what I am thinking:

Infinity Reference 1210a

854 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (CEA-2006 Compliant)
1300 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms

Since I will be running 2 subs, do I cut these numbers in half to figure out how much power will be going to each sub?

2 Alpine Type R 12"

Dual 4-ohm voice coils
Frequency response: 24-500 Hz
Power handling: 50-500 watts RMS
Peak power: 1,500 watts

Yay or nay?

Also they have the 4 ohm version and the 2 ohm version. Which do I need?

If you're set on that amp, go with the dual 4 ohm subs. Wire the coils of each sub in series (8 ohm load), and wire the subs parallel to the amp (4 ohm final load). Those subs won't handle 650 watts each (if that spec is accurate).

For selling car audio, you sure do have a lot of bad information.

JBL powervalve amps have always received great reviews.

Class D is not 3x more efficient than Class A/B. About 70% vs 40-50%. Also depends on the amp maker.

I second Howard on picking up 2 Ascendant Audio Atlas 12's. Ascendant is liquiding their XBL^2 drivers (not bad, just disagreement with the company who patented XBL^2). Atlas 12's are going for $100. Hard to beat.

Amps:
Zed Audio extremely nice price for what you get. Zed Audio has been producing amps for a looong time. They made the old lanzar optidrives, the old hifonics god series amps, etc.
