Well, I'm finally getting around to setting up a nice system in my car. (Mitsu Montero Sport 2000).

I already have an Alpine 7893 HU, now I need new speakers, subs, and some nice amps.

I don't need HQ stuff, but I don't want sony neither ;)

Good decision about Sony ;).

Crutchfield.com has a "What fits in my car" feature on their website that is pretty usefull. However, I don't know how much help you'll get here without having specific questions.

Well, here's an amp/sub/speaker question....

If I want to get the MTX tri-sub enclosure, will I need 3 seperate mono amps powering each?

And, What are some good amps to power 4 6 3/4 speakers?

No, you can power, and should, power all of your subs in a common box from the same sub amp. The key is to arrange your subs to get the lowest load ( 2 ohms prefferably ) Which MTX sub/enclosure are you looking at?

As far as amps to power your mids, which speakers are you looking at?

As far as mid ranges and tweets go, you usually can power those nicely off of a head unit. If you were talking about getting the 6.75" speakers pictured on that link, those were infinity kappas (New version of them). Speaking of head units, which one are you looking at getting?

Yeah, the link you provided isn't going anywhere. For the speakers I would go with Polk or Infinity. That should provide you the best sound and they're not ridiculously expensive. As for an amp, this one should be plenty for the mains, and its not ridiculously expensive.

This site, Elite Car Audio.com has a Forums section that is an excellent source of information for newbs and pros alike. I'm on that forum from time to time, same screen name.

I learned a lot about a lot there. :) There are quite a few industry insiders that post everyday as well. You can get a lot of hot deals there...check it out!

well since you already got such a nice HU, i suggest you invest in some decent speakers. I recommend component speakers, but if you have to go coaxial then I suggest the Rainbow Dreamline series coax's. If you go component, get hte Infinity Reference 605c's. As for amps, you could actually power the Infinity's off the HU (but to get the most out of them use an amp), but any decent 2 channel amp that puts out around 100X2 RMS power would be fine. As for subs, check out either the Adire Audio SHIVA's, IDQ12's, Alpine TypeR's, and Kicker L7's. I recommend you get either a SHIVA or an L7, but make sure you have a big enough box for the SHIVA (i put mine in a 1.8 sealed, and yes thats a sealed box!!!). You could also go with a ported box (and i recommend that you do if you get an L7), but remember you lose a little SQ with ported boxes and if they are built wrong you can end up with boomy bass. As for the Sub amp, i wholeheartedly recommend the Lightning Audio s.1000.1d amplifier. It goes for as cheap as $245 and puts out 1000@2ohms, that is simply incredible and for the price you can't beat it. Hope this helps, check out the sounddomain forums for more information.

I think I may take the cheap way out and go for a lil profile amp. If not JBL, will 300W be enough to power those MTXs?

Large drivers, while they can handle more power, need LESS power.
They are more efficient.
25 X 5 is plenty in a car - front L, R, rear L,R, and a sub
I use a fairly cheap 5 channel Alpine Amplifier.

figure about 200-250 for speakers, 200-300 amp, and 200-300 for subs.

well if you speakers you need an amp for those, and then if you get subs you need an amp for those ^_^

well assuming you get comps anyway...if you're not getting comps why are you spending 200-250? =P

Well, my car has space for a component setup..if I just get regular speakers, will I fux0r up anything? Like that little tweeter /?

What if i get comp in the front and regular coax (?) in the back..will that work OK?

I think i read somewhere that is is basically the same amp as the rockford fosgate 1000 watt amp but with the crappy lightning audio name on it. Im pretty sure you could get the same basic amp (cept for the rf name and a little different cosmetically) for half the price of the rf one. Can anyone confirm this ?
