Hi Guys,

I just got a 1999.5 (new model) Golf, and I want to upgrade the speakers, it has 4 6.5in speakers and 4 little tweeters (not sure now big, i'm guessin 1.5 in or so). Its a small car so I don't want to add in a sub if i dont' have to, what kinda speakers should i get to replace the stock ones? I don't want to spend a ton, but i am willing to spend money on it. Thanks guys.

quality != cheap

if you're willing to spend money, you're gonna need comp's in the front any any ol speakers in the back, heck you can leave the stock's in the back, just throw all your money into your component's and amp

however

it's all worthless w/o a sub ;)

Yep, I'd do what Neuro says and spend your cash on a quality pair of components for your front. Expect to pay up to $200 or more for a GOOD PAIR unless you got mad hookups.

I'd get 6.5 components in the front, leave the rear stock, get a JVC SH99 MP3 player (if your into the mp3 thing) or if you don't care about mp3, get a clarion. That'll get you decent sound and some bass (but you won't feel it) and gives you room to expand later by adding in an amplifier, a sub, etc etc. Your rear speakers are used only as rear fill and your soundstage will be coming from your front speakers, so INVEST IN A GOOD PAIR OF FRONT SPEAKERS! And sooner or later your gonna want to add in a subwoofer with that system, so expect to pay around $1000-2000 for a decent system!

well, quality is subjective

what sounds good to me might not sound good to you, go find a good shop and listen to a buncha comps

my comp/amp combo costs 1 grand alone ^_^

the single most important part of your soundsystem are your comps/amps
