I recently got my first car, a 1990 Toyota Corolla (hey I'm 17, I'll prolly just crash it anyways) and it's sound system is awful. I want to replace the stereo and the speakers (there are cutouts for rear speakers but the car has none and the front ones are awful anyway). Keep in mind I'm not exactly rolling in cash as a high school student, but I do have a little money to spend. If you could either recommend something or send me to a good car audio site, that would be very helpful. Thanks.

That's a pretty vague question but there are lots of great CD players out there.

Try starting with a Pioneer cd player, possibly a premier unit if you want to spend a bit more.

Do you want amplifiers or is the cd player's power going to be enough? For true clarity you pretty much have to have a separate amp.

Do you want subwoofers? If you only want components, Boston Acoustics makes some EXCELLENT speakers at a good price in their rally series components, highly recommended. I wouldn't even worry about rear speakers, decent enough front speakers will eliminate the need for both sets.

If you want some nice amps that won't cost you an arm and a leg the new JL Audio amps sound great, as well as other companies out there like Alpine's V12 series.

i'd go to crutfield only to check out what's out there.
but i would definately not order from there.

find out what you want using that site.
i'll help you narrow it down... quite a bit.

and then use other web sites to find the best deals.

it's been a while for me, since i last bought any auto audio stuff.
but i'd try pricescan.com as one of the source.

DM's right, get a good headunit, then good front seperates, cheap rear speakers, decent amp and sub, and you'll have all you need for decent music :)

Definately look at crutchfield but don't buy. I buy all of my stuff from small local car audio shops. They usually have the best prices.

Pioneer kicks ass for head units, I have one and I definately recommend it. I also recommend an MTX amp and maybe some mtx subs. It's what I have and it'll make my ears ring. :)
