reading a few of these threads before, i got good inputs on the JVC.

I've had my eye set on the Pioneer models for a longggggggggggggggg time (7400MP and 740MP Premier).

They are chock full of features and are supposed to be the most reliable on the market, but Ive decided that the LOADING time is unbearable to me.

Well, they have a new 2003 line coming out, x500 vs x400 (6500 vs 6400), and I would like to know if those suffer from the same problem? Is it easy and quick to navigate between folders?

If not, I think i'll go for a JVC SH-909, which ive heard good things about (along with the SH-707). also, if anybody have comments on the JVCs, id like to hear it, too. Im almost set on the JVC. Thanks a bunch

I almost purchased the 7400MP but went with the 5500MP. Unfortunately it won't be here until tomorrow so I can't give you any advice right now.

I had a JVC SH99 which I got rid of because it did not have a built-in high pass filter. Then, I got a Pioneer Premier P740MP. The loading times WERE unbearable. However, it had a lot of features and the built-in high pass filter (a feature I need) worked great.

However, my car got completely wrecked. So, I have a new car now that has a Sony CDX-MP70. It works GREAT. The controls are really goofy, however, but you can get used to them. It lists folders for mp3s very fast and it only delays about 4 seconds between mp3s (much faster than even the JVC). It also has a built-in high pass filter.

I'd recommend the Sony CDX-MP70 after trying all three units.

EDIT: BTW, if you have a sporty car with a tight suspension, then you might almost NEED the Sony. Both the JVC and the Pioneer were slot-load and would skip in my Thunderbird when I hit bumps. However, I'm in a Camaro now that has an extremely tight suspension (lowered) and the Sony never skips. It is an actual tray-loading motorized unit and the cd snaps into it. All my friends think it is cool.

thanks! I am really looking forward to hearing your opinions on the new line, because I think it looks better, and hopefully pioneer fixed the loading time on them

brxndxn: How did the JVC treat your CDs? Was it able to read most? what about scratched/old cds. I have an amplifier w/ built in filters :)

The Pioneer was the most forgiving with reading scratched discs. That thing could somehow read disks that had whole chunks of the data piece scratched off.

The JVC and Sony can read scratched up discs pretty well, IMO. However, in the JVC, if the disk was too scratched, sometimes it would get stuck in the player. (Not physically stuck - it just wouldn't eject until I unplugged the power from it.) It happened to me twice, only. And they were really scratched up discs. It is probby fixed in the newer version, though.

JVC SH909. All of the reviews on epinions.com were positive.

The pioneer is excellent, but 7 seconds is too long to wait for a song. The Pioneer has ALOT more features for customizing sounds (independent bass/treble controls, lots of filters, curves, etc), but I have a very very modest system to benefit from it.

Pioneer 5500MP is supposed to have 1-2 second delay.

both have their ups and downs...pioneer is going to have a much higher power output, but if you are running external amps that wont matter, the pioneer also has the supertuner which does increase reception greatly, another plus is the menus are much more user friendly on pioneer

jvc is going to give you 3 rca outs for running amps, it also should have built in high and low pass filters, jvc actually has a better laser setup for reading scratched/ dirty cds, also its very customizable....the built in eq is very nice, but hard to get used to if you dont know audio that well

I sold car audio for 3 years and if I had to pick I would go pioneer...it definately has more power and a cleaner sound...also alot better track record as far as dependability....but go with what you want man...either way...just remember that its now a federal crime to play any dixie chicks song at a decibal level that anyone within earshot of your car can hear

I have just installed Alpine CDA-9811 on my accord.
When playing B2K - Bump Bump Bump, I thought I had sub on my car. I only have stock speaker with no amp.
Loading time and MP3 search is fast.
If you like to fiddle more, step up to CDA-9813 with V-Drive.

ive just read about this too. ive stopped considering the 7400 for sure, but now im torn between the 6500/5500/550/650 and the JVC 909.

im going to the stores tomorrow, but i seriously doubt they'll carry either model (i know they wont have the jvc)

rudeguy: both the pioneers premiers and jvcs will give me 3 pairs of output. so theyre even there. i have ext amps, so the internal amps are not a concern.... and radio is BAD :D

i hope i can elimite all doubts tomorrow

4 seconds? 7-8 seconds!?! My Blaupunkt MP3000, one of the cheapest MP3-CD players on the market, also one of the easiest to use, only takes about 2 seconds to switch folders, and if left to automatically play through to the next track, it's only about a half second! Damn! I've barely begun to realize what an awesome player I have, and what a sweet deal my player was at $190.

EDIT: I thought I'd mention, before some astute person who?s read ?all the reviews? chimes in, that the "chirpy, noisy playback? problem only affected early models, earlier than mine, which says May 2002 on the sticker. Mine has updated firmware. If I don?t hear any distortion in Winamp, I don?t hear any distortion from the MP3000.

If you need another output or two, the MP41-"San Jose" is the next step up. The one and only inherent shortcoming that the MP3000 and MP41 have is the overly bright display, which can't be dimmed. On dark rural roads, I drop the flip-down face plate except when I'm operating a control on it (it continues to play with the faceplate down). It's a bit of a bother, but with everything else that's so good about it, including the price, I can live with it.

On the ride home from work I was thinking of how cool it would be to have an MP3 player.

How difficult is it to install myself if I can't even change the oil?

What are the major differences between the SH707 and SH909?
