Car audio headunit question

I have an old (ie 8+ years) Aiwa cassette deck with the CD player. Trying to get the audio quality up, and was wondering about the quality of the h/u as I know the source can make a big difference. I don't think Aiwa makes the greatest stuff, so was wondering if anyone else had any thoughts on that.

Second question is about FM xmitters and tape converters. CD quality is going to be 44khz. I think that FM channels don't have that much bandwidth, so you'll suffer some audio quality. Same goes with tape converters. Anyone know the numbers on the transmitters/converters?

As a side note my friend has an old eclipse CD deck, which I thought would be awesome.. but unfortunately it doesn't have any AUX in. Still may do it though as he only wants $25 for it..

The HU makes a difference, but you wouldn't really notice it on crappy factory speakers. Upgrade the speakers first (add external amps if possible) then concentrate on the deck. Aiwa is not the worst, but definitely not the best either. I think they are made by Panasonic? Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

FM transmitters are horrid (IMO). At least where I am, it's impossible to find an unused frequency...and if you do find one, chances are there will be something transmitting on it once you travel more than 10 - 15 miles, giving you interference. Tape converters aren't too bad - not great, but much better than the FM things. I don't know the typical bandwidth on either one.

I should have mentioned that I'm using an older Alpine V4 amp (30wpc RMS) run to current polk speakers all around.. I'm thinking about upping the speakers as well. Thinking about a sub too, so that's why I'm trying to decide whether to upgrade the H/U while I'm at it. I mean it's cool to have both tape and CD changer.. kinda sucks I'd have to upgrade really but I'm not totally happy with the sound I'm getting esp with the $ I threw into it.
