so... i have a 94 mitsubishi eclipse convert.

this is my plan..

remove the backseats...
put an enclosure in.. with the subs blasting the music in the air with the amp on the side of the enclosure..
i need 2 subs and an amp...
either 10 inch subs, or 12 inch subs..

one of my questions is .. does the amp heat up? i plan to place the amp on the enclosure..
so its like between the gap of the drivers seat and the passenger seat...

also any suggestions for 2 sub + amp for under 500$?

also i did a diagram to help you guys picture how i want it here :)

EDIT: the 500$ is for the 2 Subs + amp only, NOT including the enclosure/installation fee

Don't even bother. You will be sorely dissapointed with the bass if you only spend ~500 bucks in a convertible.

Then forget the subs altogether. If you don't care about the low freq's being pronounced, just invest in nice component/coaxial speakers and a 4 channel amp to drive them, along with a nice 4-5 volt HU.

$500 DIY is possible, $189-249 MB Quart amps at crutchfield (powers of 500x1, 200x2, 100x4, at 4ohm), a couple $120 subs would be pretty above average...with basic install stuff like $600-650 for kick a$$ music.

under $500 still possible. check out forum.sounddomain.com

my system to be installed:

kenwood exceleon KDC-X859 (had it already)
MB Quart RAA4200 ($229)
CDT Audio CL-62i ($175)
Image Dynamics ID10V3x2($220/pr)
misc install stuff (you can get an 'amp kit' for like $70 to handle this install), about $150 in dampening/padding...should be a great budget system.

I understand that, but take it from someone who has previously owned a convertible - you have to put some EXTREME power into it to get the kind of sound that a quarter of that would suffice in a non-convertible car. The sound just escapes the car too easily. Think of it this way.....2 subs powered by 1 amp to provide sound to the atmosphere.

Tough job huh?

I guess I demand a little more quality in sound than some. It sounds like you have it all ready to go though, so congrats and I hope you like it!

I wasn't in mine, but the sound just wasn't there. The low frequencies were severely overshadowed by the mids and highs.

Totally depends on amp and how much you are driving it.

Depends on the amp as far as how much it will heat up, and what kind of load you're giving it. It should be fine though. If you run into problems, put a fan in.

Two Atlas 12" drivers from Ascendant Audio. $100 bucks a pop, quite inexpensive for what you get. I'm afraid I don't know much about amps.

Crisp sound + budget => 10" subs

That's a start. And yes, amps will often get hot enough that they will burn you if you touch them after vigorous ue. Cooling fans recomended. Sicne cars are 12V, those are easy to do though ;)
