Car and Driver tests...

ndee

Lifer
I just read NFS4's thread about the Ford GT raping the Stradale and the GT3 but aren't these tests on a course heavily driver dependant? There's a reason why Michael Schumacher is World Champion for the 6th time. I think he and Rubens have the same car, yet Schumacher wins most of the races.

True, the driver has a big factor as well, but it's kinda hard to make up for 100+ deficits in torque and horsepower.

ndee: that's why they use the same pool of drivers for all the cars. They did have an article on thier test procedures a while back.

NFS4: not only did it have more HP, it handled the HP that it had much better. Getting on the throttle earlier means getting on it longer, and the sooner you do a high speed, the longer you do it for.

the same driver should actually do the test with every car, no?

Although I've never ridden in a GT, I have ridden shotgun in a 360 and that engine sounds GLORIOUS!! 😛 Too sweet for words to describe😀

i dont know for sure, im guessing. but shouldnt C&D's drivers be qualified if anyone? i mean, these arent exactly everyday drivers are they? C&D is a pretty reputable source as im aware.

car and driver usually do many runs of each test and throw away the oddball scores and average the rest, from what i understand. if car and driver says car x does the track in 1:30:00 and car y does it in 1:32:00, that doesn't mean that's the fastest each car can go but it's a pretty good indication that car x is faster, and certainly faster for people who aren't used to it.

many of them have racing backgrounds.

I trust car & driver's reviews and contests moreso than just about any source other than my own experiences, and even then I tend to trust C&D more. Their tastes are very similar to my own, and as such their winners would probably be winners with me as well.
