Car Alarm recommendations...

I read a thread on this a while back, but all the recommendations were for $500+ units. What I'm looking for is something that will act as a deterrent, but not something that will be ungawdly in price. We're protecting a 1997 Subaru Legacy in a decent, but still not great area (my previous car, a 1987 Toyota Camry, got stolen :|). Recommendations? How much can I dish out and still remain somewhat protected? I want to balance cost and effectiveness, because I know that nothing is perfect. :p

I have a Sidewinder (5000 is the series number) alarm. It has starter kill, power door locks, battery backup, dual shock sensors, but no remote start. I didnt get the remote start because I really didnt want to spend the extra cash for remote start.

DEI is the company that makes Sidewinder. I think they are the same company that makes Viper alarms.

Just get something with Starter kill and make sure it is installed properly.

Edit: Btw, I paid $199 installed for that setup.

looks like about what you say youre looking for. it has the starter kill and keyless entry. not a bad setup for the price. mine is similar but i added an additional shock sensor in the trunk

please don't get one. with my luck, you live by me and some juvenile will tease the car and set it off, keeping me up at night ;-)

Unless you live in Seattle, I don't think you have anything to be concerned about. :)

Anyone have a web page for the theft rates, sorted by car? I'd be interested to see where the Subaru Outback lands.
