It's 11pm. A car alarm has been going off outside for about 2 hours now. Nobody seems to be home at the house it's parked in front of.

The neighbors said they called 311 and were told nothing could be done. :(

I can barely hear it from my bedroom so its not a big deal. Still annoying though...

Eventually the battery is going to die. Eventually. Could probably go on for days though. :p

When my neighbor died, the same happened to his car maybe a few days after his body was recovered from the house. Was the weirdest thing ever, because it had never done it before.

Is your neighborhood a private street or complex? If so, is there a company that tows improperly-parked vehicles? If there is, I'd give 'em a ring.

Happened to me once in the apartment complex I used to live at... The owners were out all weekend and someone eventually called the police and they towed the car.

why can't the police do anything? They will come for a noise complaint if there's a party, surely they can get a tow truck to haul that POS away

That happened to me years ago. I called the police and they told me there was nothing they could do either. So I told them I would call my local city councilman whose home phone number I had. It was 3am in the morning, btw.

Twenty minutes later I saw the police jimmy the door, open the hood and disconnect the battery.

True story.

At a minimum leave a love note on the window letting the owner know how much the neighborhood appreciates the noise.

Not sure what happened. I woke up around 3am to the car alarm going off. When I got up at 9am, the car was gone.

Make a short spear out of rebar. Use a bottle jack and the spear to punch out the bottom of the battery.

Have you tried hotwiring it so you can get the alarm to turn off from inside the car?
