At 300w you should be able to power 2 laptops.... I think its safe to assume a laptop needs about 100w maximum.... most power blocks for laptops are rated about 70-90 w...

As for the car. as long as you have the engine running you should be fine.....

They make them in different sizes 300w, 140w, and 50w so I figured the bigger the better.

I was under the impression that 150W was the maximum sustained that you can pull from a cigarette lighter...

Yea I've used power inverters a lot. You can running just about anything on them. I've run laptops on it too.

Now don't pay $80! Buy a Power Inverter they are quite common Target, Wal Mart everyone sellse these. I got a 400W one from Target on clearance a year ago for like $30. I've seen 1000W ones at costco for like $80 (note this will overstrain any cigarette plug adapter, you need to hook this up to the alternator/battery).

Also check out your power adapter W rating for your laptop mine is 65W so I could theoretically run 6 of my laptops on my 400W power inveter.

BTW Pontiac Vibe has a built in power inverter in the car. I've seen BMWs and such with power inverters built in too. :) Fun stuff.
