Car accident rant

spidey07

No Lifer
Back out of drive way in 2004 TL. Bump into passenger door of my neighboor and leave gaping dent and cracked her paint in numerous spots. I couldn't have been going more than 1 MPH.

No problem, appologize to her profusely - we've always been cool with each other...sh!t happens. I claim in my insurance, she claims on hers.

Check damage on my car - very minor scratch on bumper and it popped out on the left side. Hardly noticible dent in trunk lid that her mirror left.

Go in for estimate today.

$900!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WTF!!!!!

7 hours of labor, 7 hours of painting? For a scratch and dent you can't even see unless I point it out to you and no parts?

Spidey needs to open up a body repair shop.

yep my insurance just paid 2700 to fix my car after it got scrapped by a bus, after i washed it was hard to tell the damage

here is a pic damage

on the positive side i got the car back last week and it looks great, of course i paid 200 dollars out of my own pocket on a rental car and gas.

I've never hit anything in 18 years so this is all a little new.

What a racket they have going on. Its going to take you 7 hours to use a bottle of touch up paint on a 1 inch scratch?

Simple solution: Don't run into stuff.

Paint/body repair that blends in perfectly/unnoticeably is incredibly difficult.

If you think Paint and Body work is that easy, give it a try. I have been a mechanic for 10+ years now and I will do a LITTLE body work for MYSELF and that is all. A GREAT paint and body guy is getting harder and harder to find.

Get another estimate. You have the right to get it repaired at any place you choose.

insurance pays, so it really doesn't matter

500 deductible.

I was thinking maybe two hours of work or around 250 bucks. I almost blurted out WTF!!!! when he handed me the estimate.

It's not a bottle of touch-up paint. Toyuch up paint looks like sh!t. If you want the car to look like it did before it was hit, the whole panel needs to be repainted. Paint needs to be mixed to match the color of the car, since colors fade over time. Paint requires a TON of manual labor.

Ever tried painting a car?

That's what you get for driving a newer car. The repair bill would be a third of that for my 15 year old Chevy.

You've GOT to be fvcking kidding!

That's the most assinine insurance setup I ever heard of! Nop goddamn way I'd want to contact my insurance agency if I could help it! Freakin' premium is high enough!

no fault state. We're a little high for insurance premiums. 1200 a year for my TL.
AND I have home owners with them
AND I've never had an accident
AND I'm 34

Yes I have.

It only took like 20 cans of spary paint.

hehe, not kidding.

Gee, I wonder why? Could it be because you're picking up a portion of the premiums that bad drivers should be paying?

Gawd, what is the plus side of "No-Fault"? 😕

Ohio better NEVER even consider such a lame ass program!

Sounds right. Some guy bumped my GF's car door in a crowded gas station last month. Nothing was damaged but the driver's door (his bumper was scratched but he declined to report it as his car was an old POS), but it had to be replaced and repainted and paint-matched. The bump was so minor that the glass didn't even have to be replaced even though the window was down when the accident occurred. Final bill to his insurance? $1300 bucks.

This small dent (which happened to me a bit over a year ago) cost the other driver's insurance $2200 bucks plus a rental car for me for 2 weeks. What you see is all the damage there was, but they had to replace the complete quarter panel and rear bumper skirt, plus repainting and paint-matching.

Yeah, you can barely see that. I'm surprised you even bothered to get it fixed...

I can see that - there's parts to be replaced, etc. Major work.

Mine is NO parts. A scratch is really all there is, other than popping out the bumper panel where it meets the quarter. Heck I could probabably just pushed the bumper back in.

oh well. Maybe I will and not have to pay 500 bucks for something I really can't see on the car.

Hmm... the $900 bucks is just for your little scratch? I was assuming that because you were at fault that you would be paying for the other car's damages... 😕
