Capturing VHS and converting to DVD

Just checking to see if anyone has any experiences to share on programs and methods used on your latest attempt at putting your person VHS movies into your pc to convert them to a playable DVD. Thanks

I've started this process. I used a Leadtek Winfast 2000XP to capture my video (as DVD-NTSC, using Leadtek's software), then I used DVDit 2.0 to author it (just did a little menu with "play DVD", then used Nero to burn the DVD. It came out OK, but I don't feel the quality was as good as the original tape (which was pretty crappy to begin with). My first burn wouldn't play on my Apex, until I burned it as UTF 1.02?

I'm thinking of doing the capture again, but either with different software, or as MPEG-2 Optimal Quality in leadteks PVR software. I've got a few more utilities to play with now that I downloaded some Demo's of some other software.

I'd love to hear other folks opinions of this 🙂
