I have Verizon FiOS. I was wondering if ther was a way to capture the HD broadcasts on to my hard drive. I do have dvr, so if not...is there a way to remove those files from the dvr and copy to my hard drive?

In a word NO.
They are dmca'd to death.
Tivo allowed this on some units, but not for HD content, and they could block your access to a program at will.

Your best method is going to be to get an HDTV tuner card for your PC that has QAM. You will only be able to get your locals over the cable without a decoder, so.....

With a Clear QAM tuner card (TV Wonder 650 Combo is one example, I think), you can record any non-premium HD channels from your cable box.
