Captureing network traffic

Is there any way to do this on my home network or with some computer software then just run connectify or something similar and capture what ever data the device thats connected to my laptop uses?

Trying to catch an update file from a wireless device.

Would Wireshark work?

Wireshark would give you the raw packets

capturing wireless traffic require special software like air magnet or the sorts. They are not cheap though...

if you have access to the switch it would be pretty easy, however it would have to have the ability to have a monitoring port setup or you wouldn't be able to see anything. once you have the monitoring port setup just run wireshark on said port and you'll have every packet that goes through any port that's being monitored. I think Csco refers to this feature as SPAN.
