I'm using the USB connection right now but the results are less than satisfactory; the video, while playing back smoothly on the camcorder's LCD, is very jerky when it gets to the PC. I think if I capture the S-Video output, it'll be perfectly smooth - correct me if I'm wrong.

So, can anybody recommend an analog video capture card with stereo analog audio input and S-Video input? I used to use a Hauppauge which had decent image quality but the software was total garbage.

Huh, this thing has an i.LINK DV interface. Can I hook up a Firewire cable and just do that?

firewire dude. windows movie maker can directly access the unit as a seekto device (iirc its still free).

or use a pro app and achieve the same results.

or plug it into osx and don't worry about any of that as imovie just works.

So, um, can anybody recommend a decent Firewire card? Thought my mobo had it, but it doesn't. D'oh.

EDIT: Why is Firewire 800 stuff so much more expensive than stuff that's only capable of 400?

Haven't used it but this one gets good reviews at NE.

Wouldn't worry about Firewire 800 unless you're going to use the connection for something else more demanding. Your camera isn't going to come close to to maxing out the available throughput.
