Capture card for video editing

Can you guys recommend a good PCI video card (needs to be PCI) that would work well with my digital camcorder? I want to get into video editing. Also, my folks have some home movies on VHS from when my brother and sister and I were young that I'd like to convert and save on my harddrives so that I can preserve them. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Hoober

Edit: 64-bit PCI card would work, too.

The video card you use has basically nothing to do with video editing. Are you looking for a capture card?

Yeah, Pariah. That's what I meant. Are there any all in one video capture cards that would also do video output? I mean, like a normal video card, or are there only capture cards?

Don't know too much about the technology, just getting started with it.

Thanks.

If you have a DV camera, then you would want a DV/firewire/i.Link/iEEE1394 card. DV capture/video card combos do not exist so you'll have to buy a seperate card. They vary widely in cost basically due to the software that comes bundled with them.\

If you want to capture old VHS tapes, you will need an analog capture card which is rapidly entering the extinct zone. For basic tasks the ATI AIW should work fine, which is a video card/capture combo. The Matrox GXXX-TV line will probably produce better results, but I don't know if it is available in a PCI format.

What I recommend is that if you have a digi cam and want to edit analog, you get the dvraptor, then my a dv - anlog converter, this will all depend on how much you have to spend though...
