My girlfriend is running XP Home and she has problems when she's typing in anything. Microsoft word, aim, any application, she'll be typing and then itll turn into caps all the sudden. I replaced the keyboard, we still have the problem. Anyone have any idea whats wrong? It's been scanned for viruses, nothing is on the system.

Maybe her finger is hitting the caps lock button.

Try popping off the caps lock key and see if it still happens.

Ya, I was gonna say the same thing. Even if she doesn't want to admit it, her pinky is probably grazing the button or hitting it instead of shift right below it. If it doesn't pop off, just put some tape or something over it.

I would agree with that explanation except for the fact that I was using her computer one day, typing right in the middle of the keyboard nowhere near the caps, and it just "turnED INTO CAps" all the sudden. I was like wtf, and she reminded me that it does that. I have no idea...

What's running at startup? Maybe some kind of utility is toggling this. I'd download Mike Lin's "Startup Control Panel" here: Startup Control Panel

This is a zipped file. When you unzip it and doubleclick on it to install it, it will put in a new applet in your Windows Control Panel called "Startup". Click on that in Control Panel and you'll see various tabs, all of which are places Windows XP can load startup programs from. See what's in there. Post the results here, if you're not sure what they are.

Believe it or not I use the startup control panel...good stuff...I haven't checked it in a while, maybe they have something new running that shouldn't be. Thanks.

If that doesn't resolve it you might try replacing the keyboard. Also turn over the keyboard and see if any staples have fallen into it.
