After losing my butt in the stock market about ten years ago and having a lot of financial problems, Capital One was the only company that would look at me and send me a legit card. It was only $500 limit at the time, but it wasn't a hokey 'secured card', and they raised my limit to $1000 18months later.

I'm now a home owner and my Fico rating is off the chart, but Capital One won't raise my limit.

Why raise the credit limit? Do you need to go further in dept?

My limit was so low that I couldn't even order a set of tires for my truck -- sometimes a low limit can be too low..

Capital one won't raise my credit limit above $800. I've had thier card for at least 3 years. My chase card has a $2200 limit, which is still low... but arg

Why do you want a high credit limit? More rope to hang yourself with.....

I am routinely turning down credit limit increases.

wow, you've got a lot of confidence in your own self-control there!

look, this is 2006. If you have a brain, credit is the only liquid form of money. If I somehow end up with anything over $40 in cash, I deposit it in my bank account so I can use it for credit cards. Cash isn't even liquid anymore, because I can't use it online, I can't use it to pay bills, I can't use it for big-ticket items, etc. I charge everything I possibly can, because it amounts to a free loan for that amount for at least one month. That's one more month of interest I'm earning on every dollar. I have never, ever carried a balance. The only thing I pay cash/debit for is Costco purchases (no Visa there), and stuff like greeting cards or gum.

Captial One has raised my limit numerous times, but they are not at the level of my other card. I still use it for everyday purchases.

i just checked my capitalone card accnt a few minutes ago and they've increased my credit line 25%. lol. guess i can't complain.

That is where you go to get your credit report that you are entitled to by US law.

Does this actually give you the credit score though?

Nope although you can pay for it. I printed out all my reports though and was impressed with how easy it was. I have this one problem though with this CC I had about 6 years ago that went bankrupt (nextcard) and still shows up as open on my credit. I figure it'll go off automatically in another year or I can write all the credit agencies a letter. I'd rather just wait a year.
