American express gives me some benefits but capital one doesn't really have any. I had them before and this is the first time I've been charged a members fee. When did they start this crap?

American Express has a regular card (not their goofy "blue" card ) with no fee? That's new.Originally posted by: kt

I still have a card-with-fee because I've had it for something like a decade, I've been happy with the service, it has a high limit, and it hasn't been worth the effort to call and try to get the fee waived. I don't carry a balance so the annual fee is the only money they ever get from me directly.

$300 a year fee. You don't have a REAL Amex Platinum.

$300 a year fee. You don't have a REAL Amex Platinum. The Amex Platinum is one of the hardest cards to get. You can't be late on any payment for serveral years. You have to spend thousands of dollars a month and pay it off instantly. You have to make over 100K a year to get considered. There's a whole guildeline for getting the card.
But the benifits that Amex gives you is unreal. They've gotten me 3rd row Tickets to the Chicago Bulls to watch MJ play during his 3rd chamipionship year (With Pippen, Grant, Armstrong). They can get you awesome tickets to any concert or sporting event. Also you get an upgrade in hotel room with using the card. You also get White Glove treatment at major hotels (like the Ritz and such). Awesome card with Awesome Benifits.

I believe the Amex Centurion (black) card is even harder to qualify for. They contact you and you've gotta spend uber amounts of $$$$$$$$$$$$ in order to qualify.
Nothing wrong with them, besides them insulting my intelligence in every ad that says the card's "smart chip" will somehow (without interfacing to my PC in any way) make shopping on the internet safer.Originally posted by: murphy55d

What's wrong with Amex Blue?
