Capital One credit cards charge a $59 dollar members fee?

American express gives me some benefits but capital one doesn't really have any. I had them before and this is the first time I've been charged a members fee. When did they start this crap?

what? If they tried to charge me a membership fee I'd drop them in a heart beat. I only ahve a captial one card because they offer you one if you are under 18 if your parents co-sign.

I've had one since I was 16 and have never missed a payment (always pay in full) in four years and they treat me like crap, my credit limit with capital one is still only $1500. My FICO credit score is 710 and i'll problaby get a new credit card soon, one that acutally gives you some benefits.

My Cap 1 platinum visa has an $18 fee but pays up to 2% cash back so I don't mind.

The Amazon platinum visa has no fee and pays back 1% (in Amazon credit) / 3% on Amazon purchases so it's probably a better deal, but I've had the Cap 1 for years so I'm not in a hurry to drop it.

Sounds like you are in a bad cap 1 program -- was it one of those Hot Deals where you get instant credit and you didn't read the fine print?

Why pay CC membership fee? My Amex Platinuum card gives me 2% cash back and there's no annual fee. My Fleet Visa card gives me 1% cash back and no annual fee. I think it's just absurd for CC company to charge membership fee.

I'm with you. No way I would ever pay a fee to use a credit card. This isn't the 70s.

American Express has a regular card (not their goofy "blue" card ) with no fee? That's new.

I still have a card-with-fee because I've had it for something like a decade, I've been happy with the service, it has a high limit, and it hasn't been worth the effort to call and try to get the fee waived. I don't carry a balance so the annual fee is the only money they ever get from me directly.

do they have a card that gives back 2%?? (as opposed to "up to" 2%).

$300 a year fee. You don't have a REAL Amex Platinum. The Amex Platinum is one of the hardest cards to get. You can't be late on any payment for serveral years. You have to spend thousands of dollars a month and pay it off instantly. You have to make over 100K a year to get considered. There's a whole guildeline for getting the card.

But the benifits that Amex gives you is unreal. They've gotten me 3rd row Tickets to the Chicago Bulls to watch MJ play during his 3rd chamipionship year (With Pippen, Grant, Armstrong). They can get you awesome tickets to any concert or sporting event. Also you get an upgrade in hotel room with using the card. You also get White Glove treatment at major hotels (like the Ritz and such). Awesome card with Awesome Benifits.

True If you don't utilize it's services, It's useless. But to make the amount of money that it takes to earn the card, $300 is nothing. Plus the use of their services is outstanding. Unfortunately they've changed them over the years, but they are still excellent.

What's wrong with Amex Blue?

I believe the Amex Centurion (black) card is even harder to qualify for. They contact you and you've gotta spend uber amounts of $$$$$$$$$$$$ in order to qualify.

Yes it is. You have to spend 1 Million Dollars a year on an Amex card and only the elite of society get it. They only contact you. The only one I've ever seen was Russell Simons. But that man is filthy rich anyway.

Hence the "one of". 🙂

I've been with Capital One for almost 2 years now and I've only gotten a $1000 credit increase and had my APR lowered to 9.9%. It's time to talk to them about getting a card with cash back with no fees.

I had an account with them for 2 years (my first CC) starting % of 19.9%. avg starting rate...
after 3 months I got a $1000 increase on limit...then nothing for the next 21 months. I called asking for a lower interest rate (no late payments, ect.) and they gave me some bull about maybe something is on my credit report and to sign up with a service through them to see if something is. BS! I said lower the interest rate now or close the account. So I closed my account. Best thing I ever did.

Nothing wrong with them, besides them insulting my intelligence in every ad that says the card's "smart chip" will somehow (without interfacing to my PC in any way) make shopping on the internet safer.

But there's also nothing special about the card -- it's no better than the platinum visas I have now and get a pile of offers for every month. It's also not a "real" Amex Gold or Platinum where you get the famous Amex service and assistance for travelling.

LOL...good luck. It's been 2 years since they gave me an increase and they refused an APR reduction (even a PFB to Mr. Cooke didn't work). They're slowly earning the heave ho from my wallet!
