I pushed a button and elected him to office and
He pushed a button and I dropped the bomb
You pushed the button and could watch it on the television
Those motherf@ckers didn't last too long

I'm sick of hearing about the have's and the have not's
Have some personal accountability
The biggest problem with the way that we've been doing things is
The more we let you have the less that I'll be keeping for me

Well I used to stand for something
Now I'm on my hands and knees
Traded in my god for this one
And he signs his name with a capital G

Don't give a sh@t about the temperature in Guatemala
Don't really see what all the fuss is about
Ain't gonna worry about no future generations and
I'm sure somebody gonna figure it out

Don't try to tell me that some power can corrupt a person
You haven't had enough to know what its like
You're only angry cause you wish you were in my position
Now nod your head because you know that I'm right, alright!

Well I used to stand for something
But forgot what that could be
There's a lot of me inside you
Maybe you're afraid to see

Well I used to stand for something
Now I'm on my hands and knees
Traded in my god for this one
And he signs his name with a capital G

I picked up "Year Zero" yesterday, and while I usually support my favorite bands when they tackle concept albums, this is probably the most unremarkable NiN album to ever come out...the music lacks the power behind the message, and even the message is a bit convoluted by cliches and talking points we have heard a million times already.

Given all the buzz surrounding this album, I was a bit disappointed...but I will go see NiN when they tour "Year Zero"...Trent does put on one hell of a live show.

Take plenty of prozac. Last tour I saw was depressing and elating all in the course of 30 minutes. Oh that was the Halo 8 tour. I hope he gets the Jim Rose circus to perform before him. Everyone loves a good freakshow!

I like thet new NIN cd despite all the political undertones (not even really undertones, they are right there)...that being said, I'd rather listen to something like this than some idiotic linkin park or nickelback singing about nothing...at least Reznor is singing about something. Hard to say I blame him for being pissed at Bush anyway...

The Good Soldier is a pretty good song on the album btw...

Trent was nothing but a Skinny Puppy wanna-be selling out to teenybobbers, now that he is actually writing his own music it is as bland as he is not surprisingly.

The bands Trent and Manson pissed on to sell out as fast as they could to teenyboppers, Skinny Puppy, Coil, Legendary Pink Dots, Psychic TV to name a few.

I agree Trent sold out, especially with With Teeth...but then again, I can't really blame him, he is making millions off of it.

That is his choice, but as he burned his bridges over the years notice how his music went to crap as other more talented folks stopped writing his music for him.

Skinny Puppy > then any superficial teeny angst ridden "entertainment" Trent did.

Even Trent himself has admitted "Down in it" -the song that launched his career was nothing but a cheap ripoff of Skinny Puppy's Dig It

Where they got their name from Testure (somewhat disturbing)

A video of OhGr's view of how crap the 90's turned out to be with big corporate rock based off his music. (And a swipe at cheeseball rappers too, not just Trent and his bubblegum industrial) craCKer

From comments: yes, just so all you newbs understand, this is about trent reznor's shameless ripping off of Skinny Puppy, Ministry, and Front Line Assembly

Amen, I forgot FLA also

I bought Year Zero. I haven't listened to the whole thing, but I am kind of undecided on it right now. Usually with NIN albums, the music is something doesn't jump out and get you to like it right away, but instead it grows on you after a few listenings and doesn't get old as easily as more mainstream music. Right now, I really like the songs In This Twilight and Capitol G. I wasn't a big fan of Survivalism.

I agree that there are a lot more political statements, but that's kind of the era we are in right now with regards to Iraq, etc, and I don't mind as long as the music sounds good to me.

In regards to Steeplerot and his Vendetta against Trent, bring it somewhere else please.

Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Pigface, NIN

All great and Yes early on maybe Trent ripped them off a little or was inspired by them but he has fully contributed to the music scene 24 halos later

I agree Star. Im a huge industrial fan, and NIN is of course one of the foundation blocks. Im not sure where the disconnect came from with Trent on this CD...it's almost like his production was a little off bubble.

OTOH, sometimes it takes a few listens to allow NIN to grow on your. I know The Downward Spiral didnt do anything for me when it was released, but now is in my top 10.
