I have a 9700 Pro (Sapphire Ultimate) running in a custom Gigabyte 8KNXP (Canterwood) 3.0C system. Running XP with no issues for a couple months.

Added a dual-boot (via BIOS) Windows 98SE to play a couple of games. Everything is fine until I install Catalyst drivers (tried 3.2 on CD and latest from ATI), the systems BSOD with various fatal exception OE errors and completely freezes. Uninistalling Catalyst and system is rock solid (at 640X480 16 colors :p )

Any ideas? I don't want to spend hours changing settings.

Is 9700 Pro + Canterwood + Windows 98SE (or Windows 98) just undoable?

what version number is your 9700?
if you want to use win98se you'll have to disable hyperthreading & set the ide device mode to compatible!
did you install the intel chipset driver?

You're right. I did install the Intel Chipset drivers, figuring that they would take care of issues, but someone mentioned to me it does not force of HT.

Fixed it by just turning off HT when booting into 98SE and turning on when booting into XP.

thanks,
