Can't use system restore

I tried everything listed here minus a system repair and that is my last option due to the fact I would have to unencrypt my computer to use it. I have used system repair in the past and I had to unencrypt. http://www.thewindowsclub.com/system-restore-not-working-windows

I have no anti-virus software or software based firewalls installed. I have scanned with malwarebytes, Super antispyware, ADwcleaner, Herdprotect, TDsskiller and Emsisoft Emergency Kit.

Any suggestions before I commit to unencrypting and doing a system repair?

I should add that all my restore points are gone. Finally, I can't use system restore in safe mode as the option isn't there.

Good find on that article, will bookmark. When you ran your malware scans were they done in safemode ?

Interesting article, but I don't see your error listed. Try this one:

http://kb.backupassist.com/articles.php?aid=2971

The first resolution listed sounds very plausible:

" Ensure that all the drives that are being backed up are local drives. Certain Network Attached Storage devices, such as the NetGear Storage Central 101 device, may install software such that the storage device appears to be a local drive even though it is a remote drive."

I ran the command and and I only have the one Windows VSS provider.

Some more info. I found a program on that website called System Restore Manager I linked to in the OP and when I run it I get a series of errors and when the app launches and I try to create a system restore point the app says it's disabled which it is not.

If you right click on My Computer and go to Properties -> Advanced Settings -> System Protection Tab.

Do you see all your drives? and if so do you see two C drives?

If you see two c drives, go to the properties of each and disable them.
This should now show only 1 c drive.
Go back to the properties of the 1 c drive and turn it back on.
Now System restore should work

I tried a system repair with the Windows 7 disk and would you believe I still can't use system restore. System restore worked before.

I may bite the bullet and just reinstall the OS. 😡 PITA!!!!

I would probably start looking at time spent and wonder if a back/reinstall would be the best route here.

Depends entirely on your situation though. I personally don't run system restore, so I wouldn't care if something was wrong with it (of course, wouldn't notice either).

Once you do get it working, it would be interesting to see if that System Restore Manager actually works.

I FIXED THE ISSUE!!! Wow! It turns out it was Softperfects RAM disk I guess. I had the temp files being sent to a 700 MB Partition in RAM. I changed the environmental variables to store temp files in C:\ and stopped the RAM disk from starting with Windows and it has solved my problem.

I was about to completely reformat and do a clean install.
