How do I get a 1280x720 res on my 50" Sony TV with a GeForce 8800 GTX connected to it?

This is the TV:

It supports a maximum resolution of 1280 x 720. My 8800 GTX graphics card supports that too (and much higher of course). When I connect my computer the the TV, I can only get a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768.
My drivers for the GTX are up to date, and I can get a resolution of 1920 x 1200 on a computer monitor. So how do I get the Sony TV to work at its stated resolution with my computer? When I try to set it as 1280 x 768, the TV says there's no input detected, so I have to go back to 1024 x 768.
I connect to the TV via the VGA DB-15 port.

the option is in the video & television tab.. Then look under "change the signal or hd format". Select 720p and you should be golden ...

Yeah, most likely it is trying to use a resolution or refresh rate that the tv cannot handle.

720p should be 1280x720 @ 60hz.

Setting the 720p mode in the display options should work great.
