My old HP does not have a DVD-RW. Hence, the need to transfer files from one machine to another. I installed WinXP Pro on both machines.
But the file transfer wizard is asking me to connect through the serial port. Is this normal? Why can't I choose the Ethernet/LAN? My Zonealarm was showing that my computer was communicating with the other one when they were connected. So, is there a way to use the LAN on both machines to transfer the files?

If you have a router then setting up a home network with filesharing should work.

If you just have 2 pc's, you CANNOT just hook up a patch cable from NIC to NIC, you need a Crossover cable in order to do that.
