Hey there-
I had major problems trying to install my new xitel platinum soundcard in my A7V system, but those problems were solved by using the refernece drivers. EAX works, but A3d doesn't work at all.

 • Soundcard is on PCI 5
 • Using win98se
 • Disabled SB emulation

anyone know whats up?

did you check use A3D in the configuration of Half-Life? Think its config> audio> enable A3d Hardware Support.

I've copied the A3dapi.dll from the windows system folder and replaced the old one in my half life folder, i will now reboot.

Just to be sure: You are using 2048 Aureal ref drivers correct? This should include a3dapi.dll version 3.1. This file should reside in windows/system. There should be no other copy anywhere! If there is, delete it. In the A3D control panel, the splash sound should be enabled. If you start HL up in console mode, there will be an "iniializing Aureal A3D....OK" message.

Oldfart,
I think the updated A3Dapi.dll (3.12) should be copied over to the Half-Life directory, as I don't think it gets updated automaticly when you update the A3D drivers... correct me if I am wrong.... I think its needed to get the latest features and lowers CPU use when running Half-Life.

"A7V + MX300(AU8830) works very good!!! February 5 2001, 8:53 PM

My A7V + MX300(AU8830) works very good after upgrade BIOS to 1005C. Please, download the latest BIOS from ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/BIOS/Socket_A/VIA_Chipset/Apollo_KT133/A7V/1005C.zip
Remove Multifunctional Device from System and reboot computer. The <Found new hardware> screen will appears. Click <cancel>. Don't run setup programm from Aureal. Run <Add New Hardware> from control panel.
Goto list of all devices. Select Audio. Say <Have disk>. Specify the catalogue in which there are .inf files from Aureal."

The a3dapi.dll works kind of like an OpenGL.dll. If HL (or other game) finds one in its local directoty, it will use it. If not, it will go to the windows/system directory. I find it easier to delete all copies except for the one located in window/system. This way, you can be sure the one you want used is the only one there instead of having multiple copies. If you do put the new version dll in the HL directory, that will also work.
