Maetryx here,

I've checked all the settings I can think of in my broadband router (wired) which is kind of new. It's a SMC7004VBR. It happens on multiple computers in my home, not just this one so I don't believe it is spyware/virus.

I can't send an email with an attachment. I can't use cpanel to upload a backed up sql file. I can't use gmail to attach a file and mail it. In all those cases the computer just sits and spins and nothing happens until I get an error like "page as no data" or something else uninformative.

Did my ISP turn off uploading for me? Is my router weird? Obviously I can "upload" text since I'm sending this. And I can click on links and "upload" the url to the dns for resolution to an ip. What gives?

One more evidence: SETI@HOME has 40 finished packets and needs to fill 40... but it can't.

Hmmmmm. From my Terms of Service: Under no circumstances may any PIPE DSL customer run a streaming audio/video server, "shout-cast" station, MP3 or other audio or video download area with the PIPE DSL service. In the event any PIPE DSL customer attempts to utilize a commercial or any above-mentioned server on the network, or if Customer's personal servers generate more than average amounts of traffic and/or bandwidth usage, ACS Internet may, at its sole discretion, increase the fees associated with the Services, or terminate the Services.

I wonder if I'm getting penalized for bit torrent usage? I set my upload ratio to 2.0 (so that I upload twice as much as I download). Is that considered a "personal server"? Kind of lame that they tell you you can't be "more than average" on bandwidth usage. Still, not sure if this has anything to do with my problem.

Okay I solved it. I called my ISP and asked if everything on their end was okay and if my account was okay and it was all okay. It turned out that my ISP uses a maximum transmission unit (MTU) valued of 1460, and my SMC Barricade Router was set to the default MTU value of 1492. Thanks everyone for all the input.

And I'm typing to my sel-elf! Whoa -oh! Typing to my sel-elf!
