can't upgrade Linksys BEFSR41

i'm trying to upgrade the firmware on my buddy's Linksys router (BEFSR41). i recently downloaded to firmware and read & followed the directions. I get an error message saying, "failed to update the data into flash rom, please retry". i input the correct server address, password, and path to bin file.

anyone had this problem and know how to fix it?

i retract my original message:

i was accidentally trying to use an update for version 3 of the said router. after closer inspection, i found out that our router was version 2, which required a different firmware upgrade.
