I have a server running Debian but for whatever reason I can't type commands longer then 24 chars. After that it starts to screw up and truncates, instead of going to next line. This seems to be a debian issue as I've seen it before.

Is there a workaround to this or am I pretty much screwed?

Are you sure it's not working? I've seen bash get confused sometimes but I never looked into why because just wiping the line and typing it again or at worst typing 'reset' first always fixed it.

well the commands may work, but the text gets all obfuscated so I can't even see what I'm typing. I can copy and paste and it will work though.

Try ending your longer commands with \
and letting them wrap to the next line
