Can't Trust Expert Computer Reviewers

I just tried to replace my Norton Ghost 2003 software since they are stopping all support as of today. I never had any luck with it. So I went to PC World reviews site and looked up backup software. There I found several with street prices under $50 that seemed to do the job ok with different features and limitations. I made a list of acceptable ones and went to Pricewatch and bought "BackupmyPC 2005" for about 20 bucks inc. shiping.

Then I got curious if I had the best deal so I went to Price Grabber and found the prices were higher. But they had user reviews for many of the products including mine. There were over 20 reviews. Almost every one saying the program did not work at all for them and there was no tech support at all. One guy said to just throw your money in the street, it will do just as much good.

Now I wonder what kind of testing did the expert use. Did he really test at all or just read the outside of the boxes. Or maybe he is so expert he knows the magic buttons to push that average users can't figure out. I had a similar experience with the DFI Lan Party motherboard I bought after reading a review by Anan. The guys at DFI never did figure out how to write a bios program that worked correctly with the Nvidia chip set. Others have tried but I never found one that didn't crash when you were trying to overclock as suggested. Lots of users were crying about that at their official user bulletin boards.

Now I've had my rant. Any others have similar experiences?

my rant is that your post has major formatting issues and is the reason i won't read it. it made my eyes bleed when i tried.

EDIT: it doesn't really technically have formatting issues ... but for some reason it just hurts the eyes.

Ghost is not backup software.

LOL, and you get mad when your computer crashes when you try to overclock.

It's not just computer reviewers-- but reviewers of any type.

Roger Ebert might be a good movie reviewer, but just because he loves a movie doesn't mean I will, or vice-versa.

it happens all the time. If they tore up everything the reviewed the manufacturers wouldn't give them free stuff to review, ya know?

Yeah, we should really put a sign up advertising that fact. Sorry for wasting your time.
