was planning on buying the v2 mobo, but couldn't tell if this one was a v2 or not. what's the main diff b/w v1 and v2? i thought v2 just allowed 400fsb, but i'm not sure...

You're on the right track. The V2 has the NF2 Ultra chipset, while the V1 has the regular NF2 chipset.

The V2 OFFICIALLY supports a 400FSB (200MHz, DDR) giving support for the 200MHz FSB AthlonXPs and a guaranteed 200MHz if overclocking with a 166FSB AthlonXP. OTOH, hitting 200 w/the V1 is not guaranteed. The V2 is what you want.

There is no reason to even think about it; you should purchase the V2. The Abit NF7-S V2 is the best NF2 motherboard out, especially for overclocking.

if i remember correctly, the v 1.2 also allowed for you to hit 200 as well... it's only the v 1.0 boards that are hit or miss on 200 mhz fsb

is this here one of the v 1.2 boards that can also handle the 400mhz fsb?

here
link to board on Abit's site

its about $30 cheaper, still does dual ddr and claims to be capable of 400mhz FSB

im on a budget, so was just wondering if there would be any real advantage of getting the V2 w/ the ultra 400 chipset for 110 instead of this one for 80

As long as the person doing the overclocking knows how to overclock and the chip they buy is capable of hitting hitting 200mhz fsb, the NF7 hits it as often as the NF7-S. The only difference between the two boards is the SATA, the Soundstorm onboard audio, and the NF7 doesn't go as far past the NF7-S. If the board won't do 200fsb, you can RMA it, since it's guaranteed to do 200 fsb.

First off, the Rev 1.XX are no longer available, and haven't been for some time. Secondly, it EASY to tell them apart. The rev 1.xx boards use a brownish PCB and the 2.0's use a red-orange PCB.

Partially true, but SATA and Soundstorm are not the only differences. The NF7 uses the MCP southbridge, so you lose Firewire and Soundstorm, as well as SATA.

oops, i forgot the link. here it is

the mobo seems to be brown in color, which means its a v1 right? but then again, the title says NF2ULTRA, which makes it a v2? doesn't that contradict? thx for all the help guys. I was thinkin about gettin it at buy.com, b/c its even cheaper than newegg, plus they have a 10 dollar off coupon right now too = )

alright, they got some nf7-s refurbs in stock at newegg. but the titles are so confusing that i can't tell if its v2 or v1!!

here's the refurb. it states that its an nf2ultra chipset, has a reddish brown tint.

here's the retail. it says the chipset is an nf2 (not ultra) chipset, and also has a reddish brown tint. however, it clearly states that its a v2!

after looking at the images, i can't tell the difference b/w the two. i want to think that the refurb is actually a v2, but nowhere does it say it is. i'm even more confused now than ever. any thoughts?
