Can't switch color profile back the way it was in vista

Under personalize - windows color and appearance, windows vista opens a color pallette that goes from left to right...from default to frost....
my girlfriends computer doesn't have that option any more. It opens into a classic view style window, and i CAN'T get it to revert back. I've tried everything that I thought was obvious. Can anyone tell me where to switch the view in Vista please?
 
You would have to switch it back from the classic theme back to the vista theme.
Under Personalize - select theme - Windows Vista
 
there is the problem, I tried that, and realized that the theme I'm looking for is Windows Aero. And it is no longer in the list of options for themes.
So something is causing an incompatibility that is making that option not be available. So I am still at a loss, because up until yesterday, it was fine. And nothing new has been installed.
Thanks for the info, any other ideas will be greatly appreciated.
 
I don't remember the solutions, but losing Aero is a fairly common problem and there's lots of discussions about it on various forums.
