Which is correct?
I hear 1 in common usage more often, despite it not making as much sense- I can't stress as much as I should that X is true? That doesn't really make sense when you look at it based on the real meaning of the words. Taken literally, 2 sounds better. As in, no matter how much I stress this thing, it's not too much because this thing is so true.
