I had to replace the power supply of my machine last night because it was blown during a power outage (I guess my power is too old and needs to be replaced).

Anyhow, after replacing the power supply, my machine started, showed the boot screen and the usually other screens but after the screen where it shows the path, my machine restarts.

What I've done so far:
I went into safemode, had my machine not load Norton Systemworks on start up. I still got the same problem.

How can I fix this problem and be able to start windows again?

Thanks in advance.

BTW. I have windows 98. A friend told me that it might be caused by a corrupted windows file, how could I check?

To repair a Win98 installation that won't start, I reinstall Win98 overtop of the existing installation from a CD using a boot disk.

If you are not afraid of going to the MS-DOS prompt, check to see if there is something strange in your AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS files. You can use any ASCII text editor to read it, such as EDIT.COM (in Windows DOS 7). Sometimes, Windows creates an unusual AUTOEXEC file as part of its recovery process.

If you find a long AUTOEXEC.BAT, try renaming the extension so it won't run. Then, reboot and see what happens.

Many systems don't have had any useful AUTOEXEC, but if you did, you'll have to restore it.
