can't start up soundstorm?

I noticed that my rear speakers weren't working, and so i tried to get into the soundstorm control panel to see what was up, but when i try to open it, it says:
"SndStorm.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
I tried updating both the nforce unified driver and the audio driver, however when i open the download, the setup says its opening the files to install, then just seems to quit and doesn't do anything
I checked using nVidia's system utility and it said the audio driver version was 4.31 (newest), however soundstorm still doesn't work
I tried restarting and trying to reinstall, but nothing and my rear speakers are still dead
How do i get soundstorm to work again?

using QCD player newest version
Athlon XP 1700+ @ 2.2ghz
768MB (2x256 mushkin, 1x256 OCZ, PC3200)
Abit Nf7-S 2.0 bios last updated somewhen in november or something (long time ago)
Radeon 9500 Pro @315/297
Altec Lansing 5.1 251 series speakers
Logitech Elite Duo

Thanks

go into device manager and remove nvidia(R)nforce(TM)Audio Codec Interface and MCP Audio processing unit, then reboot, the hardware will be reinstalled and then reinstall the software from the disk. reboot again and update the drivers. This was the only way i could get it to work, Hope it works for you.

nope, does not work
i can't even install drivers from my Abit CD
i tried letting windows find the drivers and install automatically, they got the nforce thing back, but said it wasn't signed and now my sub doesn't seem to be working, along with soundstorm and the rear speakers

any other ideas?

Hmmm, maybe try removing the drivers, before removing the hardware and reinstalling. Can't exactly remember what steps I took, but I had a similar problem and I think that is how I got the control panel back. Abit tech support was no help, they said update to the latest drivers or RMA the board. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck, maybe someone else here can shed some light on the situation.

Was having similar problem when I updated the Soundstorm driver from MS update page. Only way to fix for me was to roll back the driver. Seems driver version 5.1.2535.0 is the only one that works properly for me.

i tried installing the new 4.24 unified driver package from nvidia, however they do not seem to want to install either
every installer ive tried goes up to the setup where it tells me its preparing the files and then abruptly quits and doesn't seem to update
soundstorm still isn't working (same problem as first post)

also, i ran Hijack This because there is a recurring spyware problem, and i told it to fix all, could this have been the problem? (there are no backups before the fix)

thanks

I had the same problem, but a simple driver update fixed it for me. You might try some of the older drivers to see if they work better.
