Can't Standby in Win2k

I have this problem in which Windows 2000 won't allow me to enter standby mode. It says it's due to this WAN Network Driver that America Online installs so I can connect to them via another connection. I didn't used to have this problem with this driver. It confuses me quite a bit, and of course AOL tech support is of absolutely no help.

unistall aol. aol try to run your computer. If you need aol. Just diasble the WAN connection is the network connectiom

I tried that, now the error how switched over to my network card driver. This problem seemed to arise out of nowhere. I was able to standby for quite a while and then all of the sudden I can't. I checked the setting that says allow the computer to turn off the network card when going into suspend and such. I don't get it. =\
