Can't sort start menu in windows xp

I'm using the new style menu for windows xp, everything is not sorted, it goes folder, files, a to b, to z, to c etc..

I freshly installed windows xp on another machine and it allowed me to click start -> all programs -> any folder, We'll use system tools as an example -> right click -> sort by name and it sorts everything in alphabeticle order with folder first.

This is not the case on the machine I'm currently on. When I right click on a start menu folder in all programs nothing happens. This is the same for classic view aswell.

Can anyone explain to me why it does this?

Have you tried sorting from Taskbar -> Properties?

If you right click on the taskbar, go to properties then Start Menu tab -> Customize button -> Sort button. It should sort your programs menu the way you want.

One other question, are you a member of the local administrator group on the machine in question?

Try repairing your registry, or if you're too lazy, just repair Windows.
How would I go about repairing my registry? I use a registry cleaner, that's about it.

That only works for classic style windows.

What makes you guys think it's a registry problem? And why you guys say restore windows, do you mean reformat? or System Restore?

This problem has been around for half a year or even more so, system restore wouldn't help. On top of that, I keep it disabled.
