Can't slipstream WinXP SP2 in Win2k

Here's one for you all. I have windows 2k on my primary box and just recently formated my second box to try out XP with SP2. I've downloaded the service pack and have extracted my XP SP1 files to my hard drive (primary box) to slipstream them. I didn't have any problem slipstreaming SP1 on the Win2k box, but SP2 gives me a memory error (...0x00000000 tried to write to 0x00000000...) after the extraction of the SP2 files but before they are "integrated" in to the OS files. Tried some of the automated programs as well with no success (get same error). Tried using a different machine (also Win2k) and get the same error so it's probably not just a single hardware fault. Anyone seen/heard of this before? Help.

You're not alone! I coudn't slipstream XP SP2 whist in 2K either.
I kept getting errors, even when I tried using an automated slipstream program.

Seems you have to do it whilst using XP only.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone has managed to slipstream XP SP2 whilst in 2K, and how they did it, but I don't think its possible.

Just a quick update...installed XP SP1 on my second box and got the slipstream to work fine. Someone please ask Microsoft why in the heck you have to have XP to slipstream SP2?!?!?

I can't understand why SP2 would need to be OS specific since it's basically a script command. WTF!?!

Ends up being and adminstrative goatrope in an organization that is very slowly migrating from older versions of Windows to XP.

Didn't work for me either. As said in 'nutha thread I would call it a severe oversight at best if the MS braintrust intended it and a serious defect if they didn't.

Note it is not necessary to extract the SP to run update on a folder containing the XP CD. Simply run:

WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe /s:e:\xp
