I currently have 2 PC's wirelessly networked, each computer is connected to a Buffalo Wireless Airstation WHR-G54S. One router is in Router mode and the other is set up as Access Point. The internet connection is shared...no problems there. I just cannot seem to get either computer to see the other computer via My Network Places. I have a printer that I share on the Access Point computer, but the "main" computer cannot see the other computer to install it. Both PCs run with Win XP Pro. This has worked before, but since I have rebuilt both PCs.

I'm pretty much of a n00b at this networking stuff, so be patient.

What am I missing?

May be you want to explain better why you have two WHR-G54S device for two computers.

Make sure that the second unit thta is configured as Access Point is a total "Dumb" unit.

If the second unit is giving it own IPs you might have a confused Network.

The router setup screen shows it is in Access Point Mode while the "main" router is in Router Mode.

I have a big house with plaster walls, the 2 wireless cards I tried didn't cut it...the router as an access point did.

Access point are just words, you have to check how it is actually configured, the default might Not take into consideration that you a Router with DHCP and that the core IP should Not be conflicted with the Router.

Make sure that the Access Point core IP is not the same as the Router (but in the same subnet), also check if the IPs of all computer are on the same subnet, and that there is No conflict.

Looking at the router set up screens, the main router has a "WAN CONFIG" menu...it says there that the method of acquiring an IP address is Automatically from a DHCP server. The Access Point router has no such menu. The IP address of the main router is 192.168.11.1 while the access point is 192.168.11.100. The subnet is the same in each case. The IP addresses are different for each computer. I forgot that my son's laptop is also on the network. Have to confirm if he is having the same issues with reaching the printer and other drives. When I try to view other workgroup computers from My Network Places I get this message:

Homenet is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available.

if that's any help at all.
