Can't share drives between Vista & Win7

gameover

I for whatever reason cannot get my home network computers to share folders. I have looked at every setting I can and I get a access denied type message from both computers. I could really use some help here. Below are some more details.

Router setup shouldn't be a problem. I had both computers working fine and my whole house and any guest could access the files I allowed before. I can also remote in to both computers just and and do all my changes to my HTPC via VNC so I know everything works here.

System 1 - Desktop
Vista 64
Windows Firewall - Off
UAC - Off

The computer is connected to a private network (2WIRE218) Below are the settings from the Network and Sharing Center

Workgroup - WORKGROUP
Network Discovery - On
File Sharing - On
Public Folder Sharing - On

The drives and folders are shared and the permissions are set to allow everyone full access. My second system can see the proper folders but receives a "You do not have permission to access \\Gameover-PC\Movies. Contact your administrator...."

System 2 - HTPC
Windows 7 RC
Windows Firewall - Off
UAC - Off

The computer is connected to a private network (2WIRE218) Below are the settings from the Network and Sharing Center. Currently the homegroup is disabled.

Workgroup - WORKGROUP
Home or Work (Current Profile)
Network Discovery - On
File & Printer Sharing - On
Public Folder Sharing - On
Meida Streaming - Off
File Sharing Connections - Enabled for devices that use 40-56 bit encryption
Password Protected Sharing - Off
Homegroup - Allow Windows to Manage..

The drives and folders are shared and the permissions are set to allow everyone full access. My Desktop can see the proper folders and drives that are shared but I receive the message "Windows cannot access \\htpc-pc\d" and the details give me error code 0x80070005, Access is denied.

WTF am I doing wrong this should be easy!

Yeah, I am not sure what you did. Might be one of those Windows errors you get for no reason and have to reinstall to fix.

For sharing between Vista and Windows 7.

On my Windows 7 computer, I set network as private turn in Network Discovery and File Sharing. I turn off everything else Public Folders, Password sharing. I use the recommended 128-bit encryption (I noticed you changed it to the other 40-56 option). You just right click the folder go to Share with then Specific people. I pick everyone from the drop down list and OK. It works for me.

Make sure you have password sharing turned off on both PCs. Try different user accounts or moving the folder to the root of the hard drive. Like C:\folder I think another work around would be making a shortcut to your folder in the public folders and then enabling public folders. Then you can go on the public folders and use the shortcut to get to your folder. Not sure about this though.

Wow, Thank you so much. I shocked it actually work. I'm even more shocked it that I had to do that after applying every god damn proper setting. When checking the sharing properties on the folders and drives "Everyone" was listed. It's incredibly stupid I had to go in there and do that. I find it amazing I had to go in and do it on both systems also!

And I thought my googlefu was stronger... After all that time I spent looking for any help on the next you got the magic link. I salute you and your googlefu.

THANKS!
