I have two computers connected on a network via a wired modem. I have them both in the same workgroup and I am pretty sure simple file sharing is enabled on both of them. My computer is running XP Pro and works with the laptop on the network, but the second desktop (XP home) isn't showing up. If I click on "view workgroup computers", it hangs and tells me that I'm not authorized. What is the problem here?

The XP Home computer shows up on the XP Pro but not vice versa.

I do not know what do you mean by two computers connect to a Wired Modem.

However if your computers are connected correctly to a Switch?

Log to this page it has a lot of links to instructions to Windows Network Settings, and Sharing.

Link to: Windows Network - Installing & Sharing.

Ya, the wired modem part confuses me too. If you want to avoid using a switch, then both PCs will need network cards (not modem) and you can connect them together with a single crossover ethernet cable. Both PCs will also need static IPs.
