Can't set resolution to 1920x1200 in Vista for 24" monitor, only up to 1920x1080

I have a widescreen 24" HP w2408h monitor, whose preferred resolution is 1920x1200. However, the max resolution I can set the monitor to, in both Vista's Display Settings and the Catalyst Control Center, is 1920x1080.

I have Vista 64. I'm connecting the monitor via HDMI cable, using an HDMI-to-DVI adapter.

When I had XP Home, I'm pretty sure I was able to set it to 1920x1200. Why is it that in Vista I can't set it to the monitor's native resolution? Is there anything I need to do?

I can't say for certain what your issue may be, but I can assure you it's not a Vista 64, 4850, or w2408h monitor issue. I'm running those exact same things (w2408h, 4850 and Vista 64 Home Premium) and am able to run 1920x1200 just fine. Have you tried simply reinstalling your ATI drivers? Maybe even a different version (8.10, 8.11, 8.12), though I've yet to run into a version that didn't allow 1920x1200.

Why can't you run the signal through a regular DVI cable? Have you tried that? Perhaps there are limitations to HDMI signals?

He's talking about the DVI-to-HDMI adapter that comes with his Radeon 4850. I'm using this as well so it isn't the issue.

Maybe try going to Catalyst Control Center Display Properties and clicking on the "Force..." button and see if 1920x1200 is an option under desktop area. Alternatively, you may be able to define a custom resolution of 1920x1200 using one of the available driver tuner programs such as Riva Tuner, ATI Tray Tools, etc.

Figured it out, turns out it my error. I also have an HDMI connection to my TV, and I use Catalyst Control Center to clone my display onto it - but I have to disable the clone if I want to use 1920x1200 resolution. And if I'm set to 1920x1200 and re-enable the clone, it automatically changes to 1920x1080 and makes the 1920x1200 option vanish.

Thanks guys :)
