Can't send/receive in Thunderbird

I recently installed a wired router to share an internet connection between my PC and my girlfriend's PC (we did not set up a network). Since then, I cannot send or receive messages in Thunderbird ("Cannot connect to server shawmail" when I click Get Mail).

I did not change any account settings in my Thunderbird. My g/f's Outlook works normally, and we can both use Firefox normally. I can send and receive messages on this account from Shaw's web mail, however.

Any idea what happened here? I have Shaw's instructions for setting up a new account in Thunderbird, but I'd prefer to fix the existing account.

Possibly the port on the router/switch that you're plugged into has some sort of filtering applied to it? Are you using DHCP and your PCs get their IPs from the router? As a test, try disabling whatever security features on the router that are turned on and see if it works.

If it works after turning off all security, then just turn the features back on one by one until you see which one breaks it...then alter settings from there.

Well, I was pretty busy the last couple of nights, but I just checked my e-mail tonight and it works! I didn't even change anything yet! Must have been some random error.

Thanks anyways. 🙂
