I've been trying to install this Gainward Geforce 3 Ti 200 (Golden Sample) on my box and having little success - it gets redetected by windows 2000 as new plug and play hardware every time I restart after trying to install the drivers.
I've tried both Gainward and various nVidia reference drivers with no success.
Finally I tried it on the box running Windows 98 downstairs, and the installation went without a hitch. The only thing I did differently was follow the exact 98 installation procedure supplied by Gainward, which involves the first step of setting the adapter back to "Standard VGA Adapter".
This option is under the adapter tab under the advanced settings in display - in Windows 98 it says "change adapter" and in win2k it says "properties". Both will eventually get you to where you can change the driver, but in 98 there is an option for standard display drivers, for which I was able to set it back to Standard VGA. In Windows 2000 instead of the "All hardware" listing, you get "All hardware of this device class" and there is no option for standard display devices, just various manufacturers and their specific card listings.
I've swapped vid cards numerous times when testing older cards before, and none have ever been finicky enough to demand that "standard VGA" be designated before installation, but I haven't had any experience with Gainward cards before. So how do you select Standard VGA for the display adapter in Win2k?
